West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures for June delivery plunged 43 percent to settle at $11.57 per barrel.
It earlier dropped by more than 60 percent to trade under $7 per barrel.
As for the May contract, it settled at $10.01 per barrel. On Monday it crashed into below zero for the first time in history. However, as contracts near expiration, trading volume is typically thin.
