Nine consortiums are vying to build dry ports in Egypt the government plans to set up, an official in the Ministry of Finance said on Sunday.
Egyptian government plans to launch a new bid round for three new dry ports within the current year, director of Finance Ministry’s public private partnerships (PPP) central unit Atter Hannoura said.
The bid rounds for one of the planned ports will be in 10th of Ramadan city scheduled for next May, while the two others will be in Sadat City and Borg Al-Arab before the end of the current year, Hannoura added.
The projects will be a public-private partnership between the General Authority for Ports and Dry Land and the winning consortium.
Earlier this year, a consortium of three companies had been awarded a contract for a $176 million project to build Egypt’s first dry port. The companies were Egypt’s El Sewedy Electric and 3a International and Germany’s DB Schenker Egypt.
The port will be built over100 feddans (420,000 square metres) west of Cairo.
