Egyptian Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) signed contracts with 11 governorates for the establishment of infrastructure projects with a total funding of 228 million Egyptian pounds.

The agreements were signed with Luxor, Assiut, Minya, Fayoum, Qaliubiya, Menofia, Gharbiya, Sharkiya, Beheira, Dakahlia, and Kafr El-Sheikh within the framework of a EUR 27 million grant deal with the European Union (EU) to address the main reasons of illegal migration.

MSMEDA is working with state entities to develop the areas that suffer the most from illegal immigration by building infrastructure projects to improve water, electricity, and sanitation services, the Minister of Trade and Industry and MSMESA’s Executive Director, Nevine Gamea, said.

These highly intensive-labour projects will create thousands of jobs for informal workers in these governorates, she added.

In addition, the agency also works on creating a conductive environment for the establishment of micro- and small-sized enterprises in these governorates.
