Macron wants gesture on diesel prices to reduce inflation

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday that he is in favour of new gestures that would help reduce the diesel prices, to help French citizens in dealing with the inflation.

“We need that, so that all those who work hard and take their car can continue to move forward” said Macron on a visit to the Rungis food market in the Parisian suburbs.

Macron expressed his hope that a dialogue between the French government and the companies involved can reach a conclusion, just like what had happened last year.

For instance, from July 1st to August 31st 2022, TotalEnergies TTEF.PA has offered a discount of 0.12 euros per litre on fuel, to help face the increasing energy prices due to the Russian invasion in Ukraine.

The French government has scheduled meetings with retailers this week to find solutions for the ongoing inflation and the high food prices, hoping to find a solution by the 15th of March.
