A far-right Likud MK and deputy speaker at the Knesset, Nissim Vaturi, called for the Israeli army to “burn down Gaza” on Saturday.
“All of this preoccupation with whether or not there is internet in Gaza shows that we have learned nothing. We are too humane. Burn Gaza now no less!” he said as cited by the Times of Israel.
Vaturi posted his message on social media and later removed it after the Israeli war cabinet approved the entry of two trucks of fuel per day.
“Don’t allow fuel in, don’t allow water in until the hostages are returned back!” Vaturi said.
This is one of the most controversial and aggressive statements made by a Knesset member.
This comes after the Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu said earlier this month that one of Israel’s options could be to drop a nuclear bomb on the Gaza Strip.
Meirav Ben-Ari, the Knesset member, also said in earlier october that children in Gaza “brought it upon themselves” and that they deserve to be killed.
The Palestinian authorities have announced on Sunday that the Israeli aggression killed at least 12,012 and injured over 32,300.
The High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said that attacks were directed at “hospitals, schools, markets and bakeries”.
He also condemned the collective punishment “in the case of Israel’s blockade and siege imposed on Gaza” which is prohibited under international humanitarian law.
