An Israeli strike targeted and killed prominent Palestinian scientist Sufyan Tayeh and his family in their home, Palestinian Higher Education ministry said on Saturday.
The strike was on the town of Al-Faluja in Gaza, Palestinian authorities added.
The strike comes in the midst of Israel’s intense and vicious bombardment of Gaza.
Tayeh was president of the Islamic University of Gaza and was celebrated for his contributions in the fields of physics and applied mathematics.
His work and accomplishments brought him international recognition and awards.
These include the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Young Arab Scientists and the UNESCO Chair for Physical, Astrophysical and Space Sciences in Palestine.
The ministry did not specify how many members of Tayeh’s family were killed.
