South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem plans to sign a memorandum of understanding to build a green hydrogen-powered tram project in Egypt at the upcoming UN climate summit COP27, a senior official told Amwal Al Ghad on Sunday.

Egypt is hosting this year’s climate summit in the Red Sea city of Sharm El-Sheikh on November 6-18.

The green hydrogen tram, will be build in Egypt’s new administrative capital, will contribute to reduce pollution and maintain a clean environment, assistant project manager Fady Saba further said.

Egypt’s Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir has initially welcomed the project’s idea during the Eno Center for Transportation Exhibition that held last month in Germany, Saba said.

Saba further added that the minister had requested that the project be presented to the National Authority for Tunnel (NAT) to discuss the technical and financial aspects and its possible implementation.

Hyundai Rotem is currently supplying 32 trains to operate with Cairo metro third line, according to Saba.
