Gulf states pledge $100mln in aid to Gaza

by Sama Mousa

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) announced on Tuesday it pledged $100 million in emergency aid for the Gaza Strip.

The decision came after a meeting in Muscat, where the countries foreign ministers pledged “an urgent humanitarian relief operation” worth $100 million.

The pledge comes from the six GCC countries: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

The GCC meeting’s final statement talked about the importance “of ensuring the urgent delivery of this aid.”

The Gulf countries have sent planes loaded with aid to Egypt’s El Arish, to send it through the Rafah border crossing.

Aid is currently stuck on the Egyptian side, waiting for a ceasefire to get into Gaza.
