by Aya El Sayed

The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) witnessed on Wednesday the groundbreaking of Saint-Gobain’s third glass production factory and a solar plant.

The factory, located in the Sokhna integrated industrial zone, spans 200,000 square metres and represents an investment of 175 million euros.

The solar plant aims to produce 10 megawatts of electricity and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 6,000 tonnes.

Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of SCZONE, expressed his satisfaction with the new project, highlighting the strong partnership between SCZONE and French investments.

He noted the factory’s alignment with Egypt’s plans to localise automotive industries and its commitment to export 60 per cent of its production, supporting Egypt’s export goals.

Saint-Gobain already operates a glass production factory and a mirror production factory within the Sokhna Integrated Industrial Zone.
