Germany must significantly increase the sales of electric vehicles to meet its emissions targets, according to a study cited by Bloomberg on Wednesday.
To achieve the goal of having 15 million electric cars on the road, new EV sales would need to quadruple in the next three years and increase six-fold by 2030.
However, a more realistic scenario predicts that Germany will only have 10 million electric cars, falling short of emissions goal by a third. The transport sector is a key obstacle in Germany’s efforts to reduce pollution.
BEE proposes public transport incentives, e-fuels, biofuels, and a highway speed limit to curb emissions. Even with the targeted EV numbers, additional measures are needed to meet emissions goals.
