German imports to Egypt rise 8.4% in eight months

Egypt’s imports from Germany rose by 6.6 percent during the first eight months of 2016 to 31 billion Egyptian pounds (US$1.7 billion) from 29.1 billion pounds a year earlier.

According to the bulletin released by state’s statistics body CAPMAS, Germany captured around 8.4 percent of Egypt’s total imports during January-August 2016.

The bulletin stated that Egypt’s imports from Germany dropped by 5.3 percent in August 2016 to 3.8 billion pounds compared to 4 billion pounds in August 2015.

German imports of machines and electric sets and their parts increased by 12.9 percent in January-August 2016 to 3.2 billion pounds versus 2.8 billion pounds at the same period of 2015, the bulletin showed.

The CAPMAS announced that Egypt’s imports of autos, tractors, bicycles, and their parts from Germany reached 4.6 billion pounds during the first eight months of 2016 opposed to 4.3 billion pounds at the same period of 2015, making a 5.4 percent increase.

Moreover, plastic products rose by 1.3 percent by the end of August 2016 to 1.33 billion pounds from 1.32 billion pounds at the same period of 2015.
