Gaza becoming ‘graveyard for children’ – UN Secretary-General

by Sama Mousa

Gaza is becoming a “graveyard for children,” said the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday.

As Israel’s war on Gaza enters a second month, more than 10,500 Palestinians have been killed, with more than 4,100 children.

“The cost to children and their communities of the escalating violence will be borne out for generations to come.” warned UNICEF.

“Children are dying at an alarming rate and being denied their basic rights.” it added.

UNICEF also called for an immediate ceasefire as well as the unrestricted access to aid.

According to WHO, there is an estimated number of 420 children killed or injured in Gaza every day due to the “catastrophic situation”.

“If hospitals run out of fuel, the lives of an estimated 130 premature babies who rely on neonatal and intensive care services will be threatened, as incubators and other medical equipment will no longer function.” WHO added.
