The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) was certified on Wednesday as an SDG Model Zone Partner by the Global Alliance of Special Economic Zones (GASEZ), making it one of the top 50 out of 7,000 represented zones.
The selection process, guided by UNCTAD’s World Investment Report 2019, took into account several factors, such as commitment to sustainable development, efforts to promote investment in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and adherence to high social, environmental, and governance standards.
SCZone Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien expressed appreciation for the recognition and highlighted SCZONE’s commitment to ecofriendly systems, green fuel production, and reducing industrial and maritime emissions.
GASEZ, a collaboration of UNCTAD and seven associations representing over 7,000 special economic zones, aims to modernise these zones and enhance their contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
SCZone was Egypt’s sole representative on the 2023–2024 nomination list for SDG model areas.
