The state-run General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) has bought 55,000 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat for shipment October 01-10, at total cost of US$10.5 million.
Egypt, world’s largest wheat importer, has purchased the wheat at average price of $190.80 a tonne, Supply minister Khaled Hanafy said Saturday. He asserted that Egypt’s strategic wheat reserve is in safe levels.
Minister Hanafy stated that the international tenders -made by GASC- to import wheat comes among state’s plan to meet wheat needs to produce subsided bread.
Hanafy further added that GASC chooses the best offers; best quality and lowest price, submitted by any state; Russia, Romania, Canada, France, Argentina, USA, Ukraine and others.
