Exports of Egyptian furniture down 24% in Q1 2020

Egyptian Furniture Export Council said that the exports of the sector went down in January-March 2020 by 24 percent registering $58 million, compared to $76 million in the same period in 2019.

Saudi Arabia topped the list of countries importing Egyptian furniture in the first quarter of 2020 with imports estimated at $15 million, the UAE came second with $8-million imported Egyptian furniture and Oman came in the third position with imports worth $6 million.

The sector’s exports also witnessed a decrease during March by 33 percent to $ 17.377 million, compared to $ 25.836 million.

However, Furniture exports fell by 17 percent last year to  register $ 270.393 million, compared to $ 323.933 million in 2018.

Egyptian Furniture Export Council sees that the significant decline resulted from weak marketing that  s the participation in foreign fairs  went down, due to the high participation costs.
