ENI’s drilling at the Cronos-2 target in block 6 of Cyprus’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ) has uncovered a natural gas reservoir, according to a press release obtained by Amwal Al Ghad on Friday.
Gas flaring indicates the discovery of a natural gas deposit. ENI, the operator of block 6, conducted the new drilling at the Cronos-2 target using the floating rig Transocean Barents, according to CNA.
Cronos-2 marks the fourth discovery in block 6, following Zeus, Cronos-1, and Calypso. Zeus holds an estimated 2-3 trillion cubic feet of gas, while Cronos-1 has about 2.5 trillion cubic feet.
ENI referred to Calypso as a promising discovery that confirms the extension of Zhor-like in Cyprus’s EEZ.
Block 6 is located about 160 kilometres southwest of Cyprus and is operated by ENI, which holds a 50% stake, with Total Energies holding the remaining 50% stake.
