The total volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Nile Basin states, i.e. Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and Eritrea, dropped by 2.7 percent in 2015.
Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) stated that the trade exchange recorded 10.6 billion Egyptian pounds (US$1.1 billion) in 2015 opposed to 10.9 billion pounds in 2014.
In its annual bulletin about trade exchange, CAPMAS showed that Egypt’s exports to Nile Basin states rose by 14.8 percent in 2015 to 7.9 billion pounds from 6.9 billion pounds in 2014.
Sudan led the list of Egyptian products importers in 2015 with imports worth 4 billion pounds versus 3 billion pounds in 2014, marking a 31.7 percent raise.
Following Sudan, Kenya was the second largest importer of Egyptian products with imports estimated at 1.83 billion pounds opposed to 1.78 billion pounds in 2014, making a 2.6 percent increase.
On other side, the total volume of Egyptian imports to Nile Basin countries fell by 31.8 percent in 2015 to 2.7 billion pounds from 4 billion pounds a year earlier.
According to the bulletin, Kenya was the largest state from which Egypt imports hit 2.1 billion pounds in 2015 compared to 2.4 billion pounds in 2014, registering 10.6 percent decline.
Following Kenya, Egyptian imports from Ethiopia reached 300 million pounds in 2015 opposed to 400 million pounds in 2014, making a 36.3 percent drop, the bulletin showed.
