Egypt’s Suez Canal Authority (SCA) announced on Sunday that it will adopt a sustainable development plan, which seeks to officially turn the Suez Canal green by 2030.
The authority begun concluding contracts to help supply passing ships with green fuel at the East Port Said port.
There are also plans to convert the extension stations run along the canal to operate on solar and wind energy.
The adoption of a green strategy aligns with efforts of the Egyptian State and the International Maritime Organisation to reduce carbon emissions in the shipping sector.
In November 2022, the climate conference (COP27) which held in Egypt’s Sharm El Sheikh, witnessed many pledges to achieve decarbonisation in maritime industry.
