Egypt’s Sokhna port is undergoing its largest ever expansion process at a cost worth10 billion Egyptian pounds ($603.5 million), head of the Suez Canal Authority and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) said on Tuesday.
SCZone is supporting its investment partners especially Dubai Ports (DP World), a key developer in the Sokhna port expansion project, Mohab Mamish further added.
The expansion process includes setting up a new container park over an area of 350,000 square meters for increasing the port’s capacity to more than one million containers per year, he said.
DP World received on Tuesday two new state-of-the-art cranes, which were bought for 140 million pounds, to be an addition to its fleet of modern machinery and equipment at the port, noting that this will shore up stevedoring activities in Sokhna, he concluded.
