The three power plants built by German industrial company Siemens in Egypt are set to go online by next May, Egyptian Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker said Wednesday.

The completion rate in the three plants has reached 90 percent, Shaker added.

Egypt signed a €8 billion ($8.9 billion) deal with Siemens in June 2015 that calls for three combined-cycle power plants with a capacity of 4,800 megawatts each, plus 12 wind farms, and is designed to boost the country’s electricity generation by 50 percent.

Altogether, the three power plants will have a combined capacity of 14.4 GW.
