Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi hailed on Monday the fruitful partnership with Italy’s Eni and its activities in Egypt, looking forward to new discoveries in light of the promising opportunities in the energy sector.
El-Sisi’s remarks came during his meeting with the CEO of Eni Claudio Descalzi, in the presence of Petroleum Minister Tarek el-Molla, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.
Sisi asked the Petroleum Ministry and its affiliated bodies to boost cooperation with the Italian company and to facilitate its mission, while committing to the scheduled time frame concerning development rates of Eni’s fields, especially Zohr natural gas field.
The meeting comes in the wake of the periodical follow-up of the oil company’s progress in exploring and production in Egypt.
Descalzi reviewed his company’s several projects in Egypt, hailing cooperation with the Egyptian government and companies.
Egypt is one of the most important markets for Eni in the world, he noted, expressing the company’s interest in expanding its investment activities in the country.
Eni’s discovery of the giant gas field Zohr in 2015, the largest in the Mediterranean and estimated to hold about 30 trillion cubic feet of gas, has raised interest in gas exploration in Egypt.
Eni has overall investments of $13 billion in Egypt.
