Egypt’s National Telecommunications Regulations Authority (NTRA) has imposed an extra charge of 5 percent on all imported mobile phones starting from Wednesday.

According to the new decision, mobile phone importers will pay 5 percent of the value of the customs bill as a fee to the NTRA. “The fees are for handling the services to operate the mobile phones in Egypt”

Egypt has only one domestic mobile phone manufacturer, Sico Technology.
