Egypt’s monthly inflation rate rises 2.1% in September

Egypt’s monthly inflation rate increased by 2.1 percent last September, while the general consumer price index rose by about 187.8 points in same month from 184 points in August, the country’s statistics agency CAPMAS showed on Tuesday.

The reason behind this increase is according vegetable prices hiked by 19 percent during September, while dairy, cheese and eggs rose by 4.9 percent, CAPMAS report said.

The Egyptian government announced last week a new scheme through which it aims to bring down food prices by between 15 and 25 percent for the next six months.

Egypt’s monthly inflation rate rose 1.6 percent in August, two percent in July and June, 2.7 percent in May, 1.8 percent in April, 3.2 percent in March and 7.1 percent in February, while it rose 4.9 percent in January.
