CAPMAS: Egypt’s imports slide 29% in September 2015

Egyptian imports of ten commodities have been dropped 29 percent during September 2015 to record 16.7 billion Egyptian pounds (US$2.1 billion) versus 23.5 billion pounds a year earlier.

According to the monthly report released by the Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), the ten commodities represent around 41.1 percent of Egypt’s imports which are estimated at 40.6 billion pounds.

The report pointed out that crude oil imports recorded 780 million pounds in September 2015 opposed to 2.4 billion pounds at the same period of 2014, marking 68 percent decrease.

During September 2015, the imports of wheat have been fallen 50.3 percent to reach 1.5 billion pounds compared to 3.1 billion pounds in September 2014.  Additionally, the imports of corn  have been slid by 44.3 percent to record 870 million pounds versus 1.6 billion pounds during the corresponding period of 2014.

The report showed that Egypt’s imports of petroleum products have been declined by 15.8 percent to record 5.4 billion pounds in September 2015 opposed to 6.4 billion pounds in September 2014.
