Egypt’s imports from China reach $5.2bn in 8 months

Egypt’s imports from China declined during the eight months of 2017 by 22 percent to $5.2 billion from $6.6 a year earlier.

The monthly bulletin of Egypt’s statistics body CAPMAS stated that the Chinese imports to Egypt witnessed a drop of 30.2 percent to recording $715 million in August 2017 opposed to $1.025 billion in August 2016.

However, Electric machines and appliances was the leading imports from China registering $1.2 billion in January- August 2017 compared to $1.4 billion at the same period of 2016, making a 15.9 percent decline.

Meanwhile, China’s plastics and its products imports to Egypt reached 242 million pounds at the first ten months of 2017 comparing to $258 million at the same period of 2016, declining by 5.9 percent, the bulletin pointed out.
