Egypt’s government gave the go-ahead to the expansion of the country’s new administrative capital on Wednesday, allowing to add around 50,000 feddans.

The planned expansion, pending a presidential decree, will see the new capital span over 220,000 feddans instead of 170,000 feddans.

Billed as smart city in the desert 45 kilometers (28 miles) east of Cairo, the city, known simply as the New Administrative Capital, is designed to operate with smart technology on virgin land away from the Cairo, the existing traffic-clogged capital.
