Egypt’s total exports of date palm recorded US$33.6 million in 2015 through exporting 26,400 tonnes, state’s Food Export Council announced Saturday.
Marketing Manager at the council, Tameem El-Dawy, stated that Egypt exported dates to around 50 states all over the world during 2015. Morocco, Indonesia, Malaysia captured 91 percent of Egypt’s total dates exports, the manager added.
He clarified that Morocco was the largest importer of Egyptian dates with imports estimated at US$16.3 million, getting 48 percent of the total volume
Following Morocco, Indonesia seized 30 percent of Egypt’s dates exports with exports worth US$10.2 million, followed by Malaysia whose imports of Egyptian dates reached US$4 million in 2015, representing 12 percent of the total volume.
On other side, El-Dawy added that the council cooperates with Egyptian Commercial Services offices in different states to establish a database for a large number of states exporting dates.
