Egypt’s core inflation surges to 6% in December – c.bank

Egypt’s year-on-year core inflation surged to 6 percent in December from 5.8 percent in November, the central bank said in a statement on Monday.

Month-on-month inflation recorded 0.2 percent in December 2021 compared to zero percent in the same month of an earlier year and to 0.5 percent in November 2021.

Core inflation strips out volatile items like food.

Headline Inflation

Monthly headline urban CPI inflation recorded negative 0.1 percent in December 2021 compared to negative 0.4 percent in the same month of the previous year and to 0.1 percent in November 2021, according to the latest report published by the country’s statistics agency CAPMAS on Monday. Accordingly, the annual headline inflation rate recorded 5.9 percent in December compared to 5.6 percent in November.
