Egypt’s annual inflation registered 4.4 percent in April, compared to 5.9 percent in the same month a year earlier according the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement.

The rise in inflation rate was ascribed to higher prices of vegetables by 9.8 percent, meat and poultry by 4.9 percent, fish and seafood by 1.3 percent, ready-made garments by 1.9 percent, and private transportation costs by 5.2 percent, CAPMAS added.

However, the country’s  headline inflation rate accelerated by 1.2 percent month-on-month (MoM) to 112.2 points in April from 110.9 in March.
