Winter clothing in Egypt is set to soar 10-15 percent during the upcoming season, Yehia el Zananiri, head of the Readymade Garments Division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce said.
He further told Amwal Al Ghad that the ready-made clothes shops are set launch the winter collection by the end of September, noting that the soaring prices are due to the increase in the prices of fuel, production cost, wages, and electricity.
El Zananiri added that Egypt’s decision to cancel the customs dollar contributes to 4-5 percent decrease in the prices of the imported winter clothing noting that the imported garments capture 35 percent of the total consumption of clothing .
Regarding the summer discount, El Zananiri said that the sales volume represents only 50 percent of the offered merchandise, despite the fact that vendors offer discounts up to 50 percent to activate the market in light of weak purchasing power.
