Egyptian women can work at the State Council and the Public Prosecution for the first time in the country’s history starting October 1, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a decree on Wednesday in a meeting with top judicial figures.
Several “historic” decisions were issued during the meeting, presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement, explaining that these decisions “will contribute to achieving full equality between men and women in assuming judicial posts in all judicial bodies and authorities.”
Although there are a number of women occupying judicial posts in Egypt, any requests by women to be appointed as judges on the State Council were always rejected.
During the meeting, al-Sisi said that October 1 of every year will be named Egyptian Judiciary Day.
