The Egyptian ports have released more than 8 million tonnes of animal feed worth $3.9 billion during last year, according to the ministre of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Elsayed Elkosayer.
Feed supplies were part of the government’s plan to support the livestock sector and ensure food security, Elkosayer noted, adding that the release took place in coordination with the Central Bank of Egypt.
The ministry released 319000 tonnes of corn, soybeans and feed additives amounting to $170 million during the period from 22nd of September to October the 12th, he added. Corn and soybeans are essential for producing poultry and dairy products, which are in high demand in the local market, he said.
