Egypt is keen on imports China’s vehicles powered by electricity and natural gas, Egyptian Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy said on Tuesday.
Shaarawy made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Chinese company Yutong that is specialised in manufacturing electric and natural gas-powered buses.
The meeting was attended by a delegation from Geyushi Motors, which represents the Chinese company in Egypt, and senior officials of the Ministry of Local Development.
The Chinese company manufactures 25 percent of the electric buses operating in China and 15 percent of those around the world.
The meeting reviewed aspects of cooperation between the Chinese company and Cairo Transportation Authority (CTA) to get new buses running on electricity and natural gas in accordance with international standards, a statement by the ministry said on Tuesday.
Shaarawy pointed out to the directives of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to the government to localize the industry of electric and natural gas-powered vehicles.
He pointed out that the new buses will have 60-70 percent local components.
