Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture will begin testing on Saturday newly developed mutations of wheat next August. It has been produced within the farms of the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority in Anshas. The project will support raising the nation’s wheat output by 33 percent.

In order to help boost its capability to fight back diseases and endure adverse environmental conditions, the wheat has been amended to have a various genetic base.  Its seeds will contain nearly 300 grains, in comparison with the varieties that are currently on the market contain nearly 80 to 100 grains.

In spite of the newly-generated wheat mutation’s production, the registration process is planned to take up to three years. The Egyptian government seeks to fast track the process as much as possible, as a result of the international wheat shortage after the war in Ukraine.
