Egypt is looking to digitise and automate 27 governmental universities and Al-Azhar University at a total cost of 4.722 billion Egyptian pounds, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, said.
The plan includes automating four non-profit universities, namely, Galala University, King Salman International University, Al-Alamein International University, and New Mansoura University at a cost of 1.514 billion pounds, along with other private universities and institutes, Abdel Ghaffar added.
Universities of Benha and Mansoura have been selected for the first phase of the digitisation project, he noted.
The project includes using facial recognition in taking student attendance and implementing social distancing measures as well as conducting online exams.
