The Ministry of Manpower’s plan of action in 2020 is to bring down unemployment by 1.5 percent to reach 6.3 percent, instead of the 7.8 percent reported in the third quarter of 2019, said Manpower Minister Mohamed Saafan on Monday.
Organising job fairs, encouraging small-scale industries and creating job opportunities for people with disabilities will help decrease unemployment rates, Saafan said.
He said he is grateful his tenure as manpower minister has been extended after the cabinet reshuffle announced on Sunday.
Since 2019 was dubbed the year of vocational training by the Ministry of Manpower, 38 permanent vocational training centres and 13 mobile training units were renovated in 27 governorates, Saafan stated.
In 2020, five new mobile training units will be launched to train youth on high-demand jobs, the minister said.
