State-run Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) and General Electric (GE) announced on Wednesday a new initiative to support the decarbonisation of Egypt’s power sector in Sharm el-Sheikh power plant, stated in an official statement.

The initiative aims to run a GE LM6000 gas turbine at the plant by a hydrogen-natural gas fuel blend.

This step is under a Strategic Cooperation Agreement (SCA) signed with EEHC, GE, Hassan Allam Construction (HAC), and Power Generation Engineering and Services Company (PGESCO), HAC stated.

The SCA comes as a part of Egypt’s preparations to host the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27).

Strategies for expanding green energies and interest in applying the latest technologies specialized in reducing emissions.

Egypt has taken many initiatives to support efforts to reduce harmful emissions to preserve the environment, even though Egypt’s carbon emissions are negligible.

Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly witnessed the signing agreement between the parties.
