Egypt signs MoU of operation for logistics area in Alexandria

Egypt signed a MoU on the operation of the first logistics zone with international specifications in the port of Alexandria, according to the Cabinet announced in a statement on Saturday.

Minister of Transportation Kamel El-Wazir has witnessed the MoU between the Alexandria Port Authority, alliance of the Industrial Construction and Engineering Company (SIAC), the Chinese Communications Construction Company (CCCC), and the Chinese Roads and Bridges (CRBC).

The deal came regarding the preparation of the technical time plan and business model for the establishment, management, operation, exploitation and investment of the Port of Alexandria logistics zone.

The 273-acre logistics area will witness many industries that related to maritime transport, complementary industries and value-added industries, as it will put the port on the map of global ports, El-Wazir clarified.

He pointed out that the region will implement the first activity of warehousing, import, export, customs deposit and re-export.

The port will also witness the second activity represented in simple packaging and manufacturing of agricultural products, small and simple manufacturing industries.

In addition to that it will assist the simple industries based on some oils contained in large packages and tanks, and all value-added industries that contribute to improving the product, whether imported or exported.

The third activity of those industries that the logistics area will witness is the manufacturing containers such as paper cartons and sacks (20 feet and 40 feet).

The statement added that the quality control and ensuring the validity of products imported and exported from that area is the fourth of these activities, which considered as an important activity.
