The Egyptian government signed on Tuesday contracts in the New Administrative Capital (NAC) in order to launch first locally-manufactured electric vehicle (EV), and expected to exist in the market by 2024, according to an official statement.
This move comes within the framework of the Egyptian government’s strategy to deepen local manufacturing according to national standards, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour, said.
The project comes under the programme “Deeping Local Manufacturing Technology Transfer and Localisation“, which was launched by the Academy of Scientific Research & Technology (ASRT) in February 2023.
ASRT’s chairman, Mahmoud Sakr said that the programme aims to promote and deepen local manufacturing in the field of electric vehicles as part of Egypt’s Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy 2030.
