The Egyptian National Railways (ENR) has signed a contract to build a sizable factory in the Abu Zaabal workshop with Russia’s Transmash Holding International AG (TMH International AG), according to Ministry of Transportation’s statement.
The agreement considers a first step toward establishing a factory to localise the railway vehicle industry in Egypt, as well as a part of the largest deal of its kind in Egypt’s history.
TMH International AG will prepare special designs to carry out maintenance work, in addition to supplying spare parts for a period of 12 years for each vehicle, Minister of Transport, Kamel al-Wazir said.
Russia will provide technical support for a period of 12 years by 20 experts and transfer expertise to Egyptian workers to enable them to carry out the required maintenance, the statement added.
