Egypt registered a record low of 703 new coronavirus cases on Friday, upping the total number of confirmed cases to 86,474.
In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 68 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 4,188.
As many as 611 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 27,302 so far, the spokesman said.
Head of the COVID-19 Treatment Committee Hossam Hosny attributed, Monday, the decline of daily infections below 1,000 to the protective measures and the weakening of the virus.
The official highlighted that deaths account for 4.7 percent of cases, which is below the global figure standing at 5 percent.
The Egyptian Drug Authority announced signing a deal with AstraZeneca to supply the country with the Oxford University’s vaccine for COVID-19 without disclosing the number of doses or the delivery date.
