Egypt has risen to 82nd place in the global knowledge index for 2019, Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to a report issued by the knowledge summit, which is being held in Dubai in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, Egypt advanced 17 places from last year.
The report said that Egypt jumped 10 positions in the higher education sector to rank 49 out of 136 countries.
Egypt also advanced 25 spots in the research, development and innovation sector to rank 83 globally.
Egypt came in first place in terms of the rate of improvement in the overall ranking, the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education said.
The Global Knowledge Index 2019 is a gauge of knowledge as a comprehensive approach relevant to the various dimensions of contemporary human life in 136 countries around the world.
The report is based on seven indicators: pre-university education, technical education, vocational training, higher education, research and development, innovation, information and communications technology, economy, and empowerment.
The Global Knowledge Index is an outcome of a joint initiative started in 2016 between the UNDP and the Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation.
