Egypt is planning to produce 76 high-value cancer medicines in the first half of 2023, the chairman of the Arab Company for Drug Industries and Medical Appliances (ACDIMA) Olfat Ghorab has announced on Tuesday.

Ghorab continued that the manufacture of contraceptive drugs will be fully localised, pointing out that producing medicines locally would reduce the import bill.

She further added that “all medicines will be manufactured in Egypt by the end of 2024.” This step will provide the medicine on time with price 50 percent lower than the 50 imported one.

Ghorab explained that the targeted local manufacturing will be through a foreign partnership in technology transfer from America and France, with production lines and high capacities.

The drugs will be in accordance with the standards of manufacturing this type of medicine to ensure the safety of the product, Ghorab mentioned.

The Egyptian medicine is known for its high quality and efficiency, revealing that 90 percent of the medicines are provided locally at a value of 48 billion Egyptian pounds per month.
