Egypt’s Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir on Sunday has inaugurated Heliopolis metro station, the largest in the Middle East, on the fourth phase of the third metro line, according to
.At a cost worth 1.9 billion Egyptian pounds ($117.3 million) totally financed by the state treasury, the metro station is built over 10,000 square metres with tunnels running for 225 metres at a width of 22 square metres and a depth of 25 metres, El-Wazir said in a statement.
The minister also said the fourth phase of the third line will be complete by April 2020, noting that El-Nozha and Hisham Barakat stations will be opened in December.
The total cost of the third line stands at 97 billion pounds, including 16.202 billion pounds for the fourth phase.
The country also considers adding three stations between Adly Mansour and Cairo Airport stations at a cost of 1.5 billion.
