Eng. Said Ahmed, Chairman of Home Textile Export Council, unveiled that Egypt has lost one of the biggest export contract in home furnishings sector, which was announced by the biggest commercial group in Europe through a bid. But the European group wanted to change its resources from Southeast Asia owing to the political tensions, sit-ins and closing ports.

He explained that Egypt has already submitted to the bid in order to become its main importer, and passed all the technical and financial tests and reached the final stage. Eng. Ahmed referred that one of the competitive countries snatched the bid because the European group has fears of the process of closing the Egyptian ports and the political turmoil.

The Chairman added that nominating Egypt for this bid depended on our success throughout 25 years, as we export home furnishings to most of the European markets besides Gulf countries, Lebanon, North Africa countries, South Africa, America, Australia, and Turkey. As to the later country, Egypt succeeded in entering its market last year through activating the free trade agreement between Egypt and Turkey.
