Minister of Transport Hisham Arafat on Tuesday had talks with a delegation of the French Alstom company which is entrusted with upgrading the railway signalling at Beni Suef-Assuit line.
The project is covering up to 250 km at a total cost of 1.6 billion pounds.
It comes as part of the Transport Ministry’s plan to upgrade the railway signalling nationwide to increase safety and security rates.
Arafat demanded receiving a report on implementing the project on weekly basis.
The company officials expounded at the meeting progress in the phases of the project that are being implemented so far.
The Transport Ministry is carrying out a nationwide project for upgrading the railway signalling in main routes at a length of 1,089 km at a total cost of 17 billion pounds.
Attending the meeting were officials from the Egyptian railways authority and the ministry.
