Egypt has strategic wheat reserves for 7-8 months: minister

Egypt, the world’s largest wheat importer, has enough strategic reserves of the grain for 7 or 8 months, the supply minister said in a press conference on Thursday.

Strategic reserves for all basic commodities – including wheat – are enough for at least 3 months, Ali Moselhy added.

The North African country is expected to procure 3.6 million tonnes of wheat in the next season starting April 15, as it would cover for 4 months and a half, Moselhy said. Thurs, Egypt would have then enough strategic reserves of the wheat ranging between 7 and 8 months.
