Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity is evaluating Cyprus’ feasibility studies to launch an electricity interconnection project with Greece and Cyprus. The flagship would become part of a larger power linkage project between Europe and Africa.
Egyptian Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker met on Sunday with Ambassador of Cyprus in Cairo to discuss the developments of the project, in the presence of a number of energy leaders.
In 2017, Egypt and Saudi Arabia started developing a power interconnection project aiming to exchange a total capacity of 3,000 megawatts between both countries.
This project will be delivered within 2020. Meanwhile, the project’s first phase is expected to be completed this year, at a capacity of 1,200 megawatts.
