Egyptian armed forces established the first country’s automated biobank unit in Middle East and Africa (MEA) region at the Egyptian Centre for Research and Regenerative Medicine (ECRRM), according to military spokesman statement on Saturday.

The biobank unit helps to preserve and store all types of samples used in scientific research for many years, which contributes to facilitating the process of studying biological samples without fear of damage.

This step achieved with the cooperation between ECRRM, Askion GmbH a German medical technology manufacturer, and Egyptian company MIRA LAB.

The new achievement comes out of the political leadership’s keenness to advance the scientific research system in Egypt, the statement added.

According to the directives of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, this came to implement the reference genome project for the Egyptians, which announced in March 2021.
