Egypt earmarks 83 projects worth $337.8 million in Fayoum city

Egyptian government is planning the implementation of ongoing developmental and services projects in Fayoum city, 100 kilometres (62 miles) southwest of Cairo.

Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail headed a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday to review a detailed report on the progress in the implementation of Fayoum services and development projects.

Ismail stressed the importance of implementing the projects on time, notably of drinking water and sanitation. He also sent his directives to remove all obstacles that may hinder the workflow since the implementation process had stopped in some projects.

Fayoum Governor said work had begun in 83 projects in different sectors at a cost of 3 billion Egyptian pounds ($337.8 million), involving three projects in housing sector at cost of 750 million pounds, aim to deliver 11,996 housing units. Thus, Prime Minister Ismail gave order to allocate one million pounds for sanitation networks and15 million pounds for electricity networks in these units.

As for health and population sector, the governor said that eight projects are being carried out including the renovation of El Fayoum Hospital, the establishment of Youssef Al Sedek Hospital. As for education sector, 24 projects are being implemented at a cost of 59 million pounds.

In water resources and irrigation sector, 17 projects are being carried out, the governor said, at a cost of 316 million pounds, involving El-Bashawat and El Battas pumping stations.

In transportation sector, the governor added that four projects would be executed at cost of 847 million pounds as well as three others in youth and sports sector, which involved the development of 17 clubs 11 of which have already been finished.
